Topsail-Island
has five main communities - Surf City, Topsail Beach, North Topsail Beach, Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge. It's a narrow 26-mile long barrier island bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway, with easy access points from both I-40 and I-95. Topsail Island likes to say it is "like most East Coast beaches were fifty years ago." Definitely, it is hard to find a place with such diversity - uncrowded, white sand beaches, recreation, fine dining and shopping, both beautiful sunrises and sunsets, all in an area steeped in military and maritime history. Fishing is one of the most popular activities on Topsail Island, whether from charter boats, the pier, or right from the shoreline. Other recreational opportunities include scuba diving and snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, parasailing, hiking, roller blading and tennis. Topsail Beach is at the south end of the island and has miles of pure, white sand perfect for walks, building sandcastles or just relaxing. A bike path leads into the business district where you will find restaurants, snack bars, unique shops, motels and miniature golf. Speaking of golf - six beautiful and challenging courses are found on Topsail Island, with hundreds of others in the near vicinity. Surf City is the largest of the island towns and is located in the center of Topsail Island. It offers a number of restaurants, shops and retail stores, nightclubs, a fishing pier that is tops for anglers, and the island's only traffic light! Topsail Island is a place where special times become favored memories that will last for years to come.

The North Carolina Coast has a moderate year-round climate. Summer air temperatures along the immediate coastline are very comfortable and considerably lower than those even just a few miles inland. In the winter months, coastal fronts are common and can push inland, bringing warmer than normal temperatures. Opposite the ocean, across the narrow barrier islands behind most beaches, are the "Sounds". These protected inland waters are calm, quiet and sheltered even from the sea breezes. There is no pronounced wet or dry season along the North Carolina coast, although July and August are usually the wettest months and October and November the driest. Tropical hurricanes come close enough to the North Carolina coast to influence the weather about twice in an average year.
